Hm... although that would be really nice, I think it's better to keep Nicholas unique.
We have lots of collectors though the game with VERY short useful life.
After you are fully equipped, keeping those trophies that are exchanged only for weapons is almost useless.
I say we recycle them. I would just add and additional item to the existing collectors that trade only weapons or armor.
For example, skale soups to all level 1..19 skale trophy collectors, hunter ale to all level 20 beast trophy collectors. Vabbian Wine to some Vabbian collectors.
There are some nightfall and Eye of the north collectors that have something different.
But I mean to add things like blue XP scrolls, cheap drinks, cheap sweets, simple fireworks, ID and salvage kits, gray dye and other small consumables at the end of their lists. Things that are usually cheap or found in merchants.
It would be nice to get 5 naga pelts and saying: Eh, I can trade those for Soft rice wine (a 'copy' of rice wine that is sold for 5 gold in merchants instead of 200).

I would love a improvement or recyckling iof the current collectors.
But it seems harder for ANET developers to add stuff to npc, they seem to have easier adding a new npc instead
thus having a collector that ask for unusefull collector items would be easier for ANET to Add/implement than improving all.

If that was the case, why not "remove" the collector NPCs (some, not all), then "readd" them with different coding, but same name/model/location. It would act the same and if making a new NPC is easier than changing a NPC, then that can be done.
Personally I want a version of Nicholas for either each of the 4 games, and one for UW/FoW, or for each region.
While keeping him in Pre is unique, I find the npc very fun, and would be a fun thing if other collectors were changed to act like him.

I can't even begin to understand why this collector was added to Pre-Searing, because no reason I know of points back to "Pre-Searing is tutorial land."
I like the idea behind Nicholas: an ever-changing demand. I wish more collectors were like that, but for starters, the rewards have to have more common usefulness. Collector weapons aren't of much value to a person who already has maxed weapons of their own that they can modify. Collectors would need new rewards before it would make any sense to make them like Nicholas.

A collector like this in post searing defeats the purpose. Nicholas is only there for perma pre characters to get "consumption" titles. Putting one in post searing destroys the intention.

I wonder how many people created new toons just to farm the collectables that Nicholas might be asking for so they can take them forward to a waiting title hound? I did. Three different charectors on two different accounts.

I'd rather see a use for some of the 'collector' items that have no collector yet. Mursaat Tokens, Phantom Residue, Dark Flame Fang, etc. There are a lot, so I'd like to see them actually put to use, and if they add a collector to provide consumables after such a long time without one, they need to make them hard to reach, and hard to collect what they want. Easy points for titles that have been around for as long as they have should not be added.

What's the added value of a collector collecting collector weapons? If a collector collecting collector weapons wants a plasmablade, you still need to farm 5 Charr Carvings, only to make a detour through the plasmablade guy, to eventually end up at the collector collecting the plasmablade.

I think it would be easyer to just make the collector take the carvings instead of the plasmablade.

I rarely see good ideas on guru.... Love this one though.
Hell yes! Love the idea! But maybe make it weekly instead for like people who goes on weekend trips and such.
I suggest he could give: Money (A collector buying the things he collects? Shocking XD), perf version as you suggested :P, a random weapon related to the character who delivered the items profession (kinda like z-chest but of course chance of like warrior getting a Eternal Blade for instance would be 0.0001% or something like that lol)
A completely unique item to him like how the tonics are unique to the z-chest.
